Money affects our emotions more than we often admit. It can influence how safe we feel, how we make decisions, and even how we sleep at night. When finances are tight or uncertain, it can feel like we’re living under constant pressure—a quiet heaviness that follows us everywhere we go.
But God never intended for us to carry that burden alone.
Over and over throughout Scripture, God shows us His heart as our Provider. He reminds us that we don’t have to live overwhelmed by fear or weighed down by the pressure of trying to figure everything out on our own. When we trust Him—not just with our spiritual life, but with practical things like our finances—something shifts inside us. A peace begins to grow. A calm settles in. Our trust deepens.
This kind of peace isn’t based on numbers, bank accounts, or circumstances. It’s based on a relationship with Him. It’s based on surrender and on letting God be God in every part of our lives.
And for me, this revelation changed everything.
When Money Became My Biggest Stress Point
For a long time, I believed that if I could just work harder, save more, budget better, or cut more expenses, everything would finally calm down. I told myself:
“Once I figure this out, I’ll feel better.”
“Once I make more, the stress will go away.”
“Once I reach a certain number, I’ll finally have peace.”
But no matter what I did, the pressure never lifted.
Even when I earned more, there was always some new expense. Even when I saved more, something unexpected came up. Even when I disciplined myself, it still felt like I was one step behind, living in a constant state of “almost enough but not quite.”
I lived in survival mode for a very long time. As a single mother, I was always hustling, always striving and always carrying the pressure alone.
And the worst part? I felt spiritually empty in this area.
I trusted God with my salvation…
I trusted Him with my heart…
I trusted Him with my family…
But my finances?
That was the one area I still tried to control by myself.
Looking back, I didn’t realize how emotionally heavy financial stress is until I felt the weight lift. I didn’t realize how much anxiety I carried until God started filling me with something better… something stable… something supernatural:
His peace.
The Breaking Point: When I Knew Something Had to Change
There came a moment when I hit a brick wall. A moment when everything felt too heavy.
I was exhausted from trying to fix everything in my own strength. No matter how hard I worked, how tightly I held on, or how much I sacrificed, I still felt stuck in the same cycle.
I remember thinking:
“God, I can’t keep doing life this way. I’m tired of feeling like I’m drowning.”
I was overwhelmed, burnt out, and honestly, desperate for something different.
And that’s when God spoke to my heart. Not in a loud, dramatic way—but in a gentle, clear whisper:
“Surrender this to Me.”
It wasn’t about money.
It wasn’t about amounts.
It wasn’t about doing something religious to earn His approval.
It was about trust.
It was about letting go of my grip long enough for God to place something better in my hands.
And so, after resisting for far too long, I surrendered.
I surrendered my fear.
I surrendered my striving.
I surrendered my financial life—completely.
And that decision changed everything.
When I Finally Surrendered, Peace Began to Come In
Something happened the moment I let go.
Not magically… but spiritually.
Not instantly… but noticeably.
And the change first happened in my heart—before it happened in my bank account.
When I surrendered, God began to fill me with:
A peace I couldn’t explain
A calmness I had never felt before
A sense of security that didn’t come from money
A confidence that God would take care of me
A renewed closeness to Him
For the first time in years, I wasn’t trying to carry everything alone.
I wasn’t spinning in fear.
I wasn’t calculating for survival.
I wasn’t living in a constant panic about “what if.”
And this peace didn’t come because I suddenly had more money.
It came because I finally put God first.
Jesus Reminds Us Who Our True Provider Is
One of the Scriptures that changed my perspective is Matthew 6:26–27:
“Look at the birds of the air… your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
And a few verses later, Jesus says:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
—Matthew 6:33
This verse became so real to me!
God was showing me:
“You’re trying to carry something that I never asked you to carry.
You’re trying to provide for yourself in a way only I can.
Let Me take care of you.”
My problem wasn’t money.
My problem was fear.
My problem was control.
My problem was believing that everything depended on me.
When Jesus said to seek first the kingdom of God, He wasn’t giving a rule—He was offering a pathway to peace.
Putting God first opens the door to clarity and calm.
Putting God first removes fear from the driver’s seat.
Putting God first realigns your heart with the One who actually holds your future.
Trusting God Changes More Than Your Finances
As I began to trust God more deeply, I noticed changes happening in every area of my life:
1. My anxiety began to fade.
The panic I used to feel every time a bill came or an unexpected expense popped up slowly dissolved.
2. I started making wiser decisions.
When stress isn’t controlling you, you think clearly.
3. I became more intentional with money.
Trusting God didn’t mean becoming careless—it meant becoming peaceful and purposeful.
4. I recognized God’s provision everywhere.
Things I once called “coincidences” I now recognize as the hand of God.
5. My relationship with God grew deeper.
Inviting Him into my practical life made Him feel closer than ever.
Financial Surrender Isn’t About Losing Control—It’s About Gaining Peace
One of the biggest myths about trusting God with your finances is thinking it means doing nothing.
But surrender doesn’t mean stepping back. It means stepping in—with God.
He guides you.
He gives you wisdom.
He corrects your steps.
He nudges your heart.
He leads you with peace instead of fear.
Surrender isn’t about giving up control—it’s about giving God control so you can finally rest.
Peace Comes When God Is at the Center
When God became the center of my financial life, everything changed.
I wasn’t just hoping things would get better—I was trusting the One who makes things better.
I wasn’t striving anymore—I was surrendering.
I wasn’t stressing anymore—I was listening.
I wasn’t living in fear—I was living in faith.
And that’s when God began opening doors I could never have opened on my own.
New opportunities.
Unexpected provision.
Favor that made no sense.
Bills being paid more easily.
Resources appearing when needed.
And through it all, a steady peace that guarded my heart and mind—just like Philippians 4:7 promises:
“The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This is not just a verse.
It is my lived experience.
It is truth in action.
You Were Never Meant to Walk This Journey Alone
If you’re in a place where finances feel overwhelming…
If you’re tired of worrying…
If you’re stressed and stretched thin…
If you’re trying so hard but still feeling stuck…
I want you to hear this:
God sees you.
God cares for you.
God will take care of you.
You don’t have to figure it all out.
You don’t have to carry this burden by yourself.
You don’t have to live in fear or scarcity.
God invites you into a place of peace—a place where surrender becomes strength and trust becomes freedom.
And when you put God first, when you seek His kingdom above all things, everything else begins to align.
Not instantly.
Not perfectly.
But faithfully.
Because He is faithful.
